Government Yet to Open 5 Technical Colleges

Five newly constructed community technical colleges which the Chinese Government handed over to the government of Malawi on 25th February 2022 are yet to be opened for training.

The colleges are Nansomba in Mulanje, Kavinkhama in Mzimba, Ntonda in Ntcheu, Tengani in Nsanje and Sakata in Zomba.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour Christina Mkutumula told Zodiak on Thursday that the facilities will be opened for training at the start of the second term which is 25th April 2022.

“The facilities were handed over to the government in the middle of the technical and vocational training term and it could not be proper to commence the training then,” said Mkutumula.

District Commissioner for Mulanje Stallichi Mwambiwa said they have already put in place a college management committee in readiness for the opening of their Nansomba Community Technical College.

“Let me also indicate that recruitment of staff is our responsibility so we are set to open the come 25th April,” said Mwambiwa.

Experts say community technical colleges have the potential of enhancing job creation and socio-economic development.
