Bishop of the Anglican Church of Southern Malawi Right Reverend Alinafe Kalemba says corruption and bribery involve the elite society which unfortunately comprise Christians and Muslims.

Bishop Kalemba says this is the reason no one can deny that Malawi is now a rotten state which needs prayers and action.

He said this on Saturday in Mulanje during the induction of Priest of Mulanje Parish who is now Archdeacon McDonald Gowoka of Highlands Archdeaconry.

“We, the men of God including Archdeacon Gowoka have a huge task of praying for Malawi which is embroiled in corruption and bribery, insecurity, hunger, natural calamities and gender-based violence including defilements,” said Bishop Kalemba.

Archdeacon Gowoka said this is perhaps one of the happiest days in my life and my family after being elevated to higher position with our church.

“I will use Holy Scriptures to promote peace and unity within and outside the church and fight against obstacles that are affecting the country’s social economic development,” said Archdeacon Gowoka.

Born in 1972, Archdeacon Gowoka has served as Parish Priest in Chiradzulu, South Lunzu and Mulanje where he has now been ordained as Archdeacon of Highlands Archdeaconry with nine parishes covering Mulanje, Phalombe and Thyolo Districts.
