NCA/DCA Defends Malawi NGOs on Transparency

Norwegian Church Aid and DanChurchAid Country Director, Håvard Hovdhaugen, has moved in to the defence of the country's NGO sector amid concerns that it is not transparent enough in its undertakings.

Hovdhaugen claims the country's NGO sector "is well regulated and transparent.

"I think the NGO sector in Malawi is very regulated and it's transparent and we are all contributing to the development of Malawi and to the best of Malawians," explained Hovdhaugen.

He further dared the NGO's to work as a team.

"My advice is we should keep on working together not as enemies. We have a joint mission between govt structure, International NGOs and Local NGOs. We are all here to contribute to the development of Malawi."

The NCA/DCA Country Director, has been to Nsanje to appreciate progress of the projects being implemented by their partner Foundation for Civic Education and Social Empowerment (FOCESE).

FOCESE is implementing a K108 million one-year project in Nsanje dubbed Strengthened Local Governance Structures, a joint country program which is being bankrolled by Norwegian Church Aid/DanChurchAid.

"I am very proud to have FOCESE as one of our partners in the NCA/DCA," he said.
