ECD Services Compromised in Chiradzulu
Early Childhood Service delivery has been greatly compromised in Chiradzulu due to among other challenges, inadequate infrastructure a development which has worried education authorities in the district .
Early Childhood Development Coordinator for the district, Friday Kalaundi disclosed to Zodiak in an interview on Friday that the district has got about 336 ECD permanent structures out of over 15 000 children requiring such services.
Kalaundi also pointed out there are no adequate care givers in the district saying even the few who are there are also not properly trained.
"In an ideal situation one care giver is supposed to look after 20 children aged between three to five. However in our case, one care giver is looking for over 50 children . Most of these lessons are also being conducted either in churches or rented infrastructures. This is really worrisome" he said.
He however pointed out that with support from the world bank additional 15 early childhood development structures are being constructed in the district. The world bank is also supporting training of some additional care givers in the district.
Meanwhile a local civil society organisation in the district, Tiwasunge Community Support Organisation is engaging duty bearers in the district to find ways of improving ECD services in the district .
