The Evangelical Church of Malawi (ECM) has challenged the youths in Thyolo to embrace the spirit of giving the little they get to the vulnerable.

Speaking to Zodiak Online on Sunday after launching five months of thanks-giving among the youths at Wilson Prayer House in Thyolo, ECM Centre treasurer general Nyadani Maseya, believes the youths if organised, they have the potential to help individuals and institutions in need.

Maseya says it is sad that currently, most youths in the district misuse the resources they get when there are a lot of vulnerable people in the society needing a hand.

"When we sat down, we observed that many youths are getting lost. They are not embracing what we were doing in the past through giving to others, whether in their families, church even to the larger society. We need to teach them to give to others.

"We believe that giving helps in development. It helps the church, families and society to develop. It also helps to save situations and lives. For instance, if they give some food or bags of maize to the needy elderly, they may have saved his or her life from committing suicide due to problems," he said.

The church's youth chairperson Joseph Besten says, they will try to embrace the call by touching many lives in the district.

"It is true that giving shows that we love God. When the youths embrace giving, in turn God helps them to prosper and have good health.

"Am advising my fellow youths in the name of Jesus to love one another through giving," he said.

The youths were drawn from various churches under Ntambanyama Synod.
