Irate Villagers Demolish 8 Houses in Thyolo

Angry community members in Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo have demolished eight houses for the relations of a man suspected to have murdered a 70-year old Jonathan Paul.

South East Police Spokesperson, Rodrick Maida, told Zodiak Online on Monday that on May 31, 2022, Paul went to Shala village to drink beer and never returned home, but was later found dead on June 4, 2022 in a pigeon peas field.

"What transpired was that Paul on May 31, 2022 left his home village Matewere to Shala village for beer drinking where he never returned. And because of his missing, villagers searched in Shala where they found him dead in a pigeon peas garden.

"This prompted the villagers to mobilize themselves and demolished eight houses including for the one who was selling beer," he said.

Maida says currently no arrest has been made on the matter.

He has however, urged communities to desist from resorting to mob justice since perpetrators will face the law.

Paul hailed from Matewere Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kapichi in the district.
