The Roads Authority (RA) has identified a stretch between Zalewa and Chingeni on the Blantyre – Lilongwe M1 road as the first beneficiary of money collected from toll gates.

Spokesperson for the Authority, Portia Kajanga, says they are currently working on procurement process for the road’s renovation work.

“We have been discussing with the Roads Fund Administration (RFA) to identify a section on the M1 where we can start channeling in these resources that have been identified in terms of rehabilitating or reconstructing the road section.

“We are almost through with designs for this section. Once we are done with that, we will advertise to get contractor and consultant who will be able to do the work for us,” she said.

Kajanga says the money which has been collected at Chingeni and Kalinyeke toll gates is being taken care of by the RFA “which is their responsibility.”
