World Vision Malawi in partnership with other non-governmental organizations has launched a three-day event of Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Learning Forum in Blantyre.

The Forum is aimed at eradicating girl’s susceptibility to HIV infection and other challenges that affect them.

National Director for World Vision Malawi, Francis Dube, stressed the need to protect young girls from getting infected from HIV and AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections.

AGYW Peer Ambassador Maria Chavula Phiri says the conference will equip them with knowledge which will then be used to teach fellow young girls in their clubs.

“We will share knowledge with others after this conference”, Maria said.

Maria has further requested government to implement programmes that can empower girls and young women economically.

Meanwhile, the minister of youth and sports, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has concurred with Dube that civic educating girls and young women on dangers of HIV and AIDS and other challenges they face is paramount to country’s development.

AGYW initiative is being funded by Global Fund and has reached out to over 90, 000 girls across the country.
