Nsanje North Communities Decry Security Lapse

Communities in the area of Traditional Authority Mlolo in Nsanje have lamented what they call security lapses in the area.

The concern follows series of murders with security guards being the most targeted with the latest being a Sunday night incident in which a security guard identified as Luwis Joke, aged 65, and was killed in the line of duty. 

Communities in the area told Zodiak Online that they are living in fear as in April this year, two security guards were also killed in a similar fashion.

One of the concerned community members, Rodgers Chilemba, from Kandodo village, faults the law enforcers saying “they can do better especially on patrols.

“They have a vehicle but it is not being utilized for patrols. What is the problem? Are they failing their job or is it to do with fuel?” wondered Chilemba.

The district’s Police Spokesperson Sub Inspector, Agnes Zalakoma, however dismissed the claims.

“We are doing our part. Every week manpower is deployed to the area to enhance security. Besides, we have a team of officers who have been posted to the area.  Some have relocated but others have yet to move due to housing problems at Fatima.

“Authorities also dispatched a vehicle there which is being used for patrols,” explained Zalakoma.

On the Sunday incident, Zalakoma, said the unknown assailants attacked and assaulted Luwis to death before breaking into the shop he was manning and stole assorted property and cash belonging to businessman, Ganizani Kambere.
