Life Ministry Takes Hygiene and Farming to Balaka and Machinga
Life Ministry Malawi, a Christian organization, has through its "Tingathe project love in action" trained 200 households in hygiene and sanitation in Balaka and Machinga districts.
The ministry’s national coordinator, Ronald Mjuweni, said they have been compelled to intervene in the area to avert the risk of outbreak of scabies, cholera and diarrhea among other diseases.
"We teach people how to manage pit latrines and incorporate local ways and skills in making re-usable sanitary pads," said Mjuweni.
Evangelism Coordinator of the ministry responsible for pastoral training and church planting Harry Chikwapula they are also offering farmers with better farming methods for food security.
“We have trained 400 farmers in conservation agriculture, 15 university students in leadership skills and sponsored a football bonanza for the two districts,” he said.
A smallholder farmer Harriet Chikopa who participated in the agriculture and entrepreneurship training said this will help her harvest more than it has always been the case.
