Paramount Chief Kawinga Tips Politicians to Create Awareness on Vaccines
Paramount Chief Kawinga of Machinga has challenged politicians to create awareness among their followers on the importance of vaccines, observing, they have a huge following and should take advantage of the numbers to reach out to the masses or the exercises will continue to face challenges.
Paramount Kawinga has made the call today at Kaudzu ground where health authorities in Machinga have launched the third round of Polio vaccination targeting 143,663 children from the initial 133,000 children.
Kawinga says politicians should not only focus on political campaigns but to take part in every aspect of human life "since they rely on a health society during elections."
"These politicians are only seen when they are campaigning for their own positions but on issues of more importance like the vaccinations, they are nowhere to be see," said Kawinga.
"I want to urge them to focus on creating awareness of the vaccinations going on in our country because when they attain their positions, they will need healthy people to lead," he added
Machinga District Health Office spokesperson, Clifton Ngozo says they hope to reach the target as people now understand the importance of vaccines in the district.
"Our expectations are high as we believe to reach out to a lot of children in the district. As you know that in the past two campaigns we managed to vaccinate over one hundred percent of our target, so we hope for the same this time," said Ngozo.
