28 Girls Drop Out at Thuchira Secondary School

Amid reports of continued dropout of girls from school, it has been revealed that at least 28 girls from a form four class of 116 students at Thuchira Community Day Secondary School in Mulanje District will not write this years Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations after dropping out of school along the way.
According to the school's head teacher Henderson Bwanaisa, only four boys dropped out of school making a total number of dropouts to 32.
Speaking on Friday during the schools 2022 form four graduation, Bwanaisa said reasons for dropping out of school were early marriages and pregnancies.
“The school has a lot of challenges ranging from inadequate school blocks, staff houses, laboratory and library and we call upon government and Non-Governmental Organizations to assist us with any of these items,” said Bwanaisa.
Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Culture Dr. Michael Usi who graced the graduation challenged the outgoing students to continue abstaining and persevering as they continue with their education saying reaching form four is just the beginning of their education journey.
“You have a long way to go with your education but without putting God first, abstinence and perseverance, you will not succeed in your life,” Usi challenged the outgoing students.
84 students are expected to sit for MSCE examinations at Thuchira CDSS.
