Over 800 Nantipwiri estate farmers from Bvumbwe have planned peaceful demonstrations on September 7, 2022 against the Thyolo District Commissioner and Thyolo North parliamentarian, Ephraim Nayija, on allegations that they are facilitating seizure of their land.

The farmers served a notice of the protests to the authorities this Tuesday.

Speaking to Zodiak Online, the farmers' Chairperson Hussein Chiwalo, claimed the council and their MP are facilitating the sale of their land which was bought for them by former President Joyce Banda to the developers.

"We have caught officials who would like to grab our land which the former President Joyce Banda bought for us.

"We are going there for our DC to give us another land which we should be cultivating our crops after grabbing that one," he said.

Last year, the farmers obtained a court injunction restraining the council on the move, but the council allegedly vacated it some two weeks ago and it started dermacating the land.

Meanwhile, both Thyolo District Commissioner Douglas Moffat and MP Nayija have declined to comment as the matter is in court.
