Classroom Block, Laboratory Stall at Ntambanyama CDSS

A classroom block and science laboratory whose construction commenced in 2017, are yet to be completed at Ntambanyama Community Day Secondary School in Thyolo.

Deputy head teacher for the school Steven Kambalame, hoped the project would have eased classroom and laboratory challenges, as currently, students are using a mobile lab and some what used to be the feeding program room as a learning space.

"Up to now the classroom block is not yet completed. But we are very much in need of laboratory and learning space. This means that we do not have more classrooms for the students to use, instead we are using a small room which was meant for a feeding program. The form ones are using that one," Kambalame said.

Member of Parliament for Thyolo Thava, Mary Navicha, says she has on several occasions pushed the government in Parliament including the Ministry of Education to complete the structures, but to no avail.

"I have been making follow ups, with the government officials, Ministry of Education and asking almost five times in Parliament including the department of MESIP, but up to now nothing happened on the ground," she said

Ministry of Education Spokesperson, Chikondi Chimala, while only indicating that the structure was under the Malawi Education Sector Improvement Project (MESIP), said he needed to check with the construction unit for details.

Zodiak Online efforts to establish the cost and sources of funds for the project have proved futile. The district and local stakeholders said they were not aware of the cost of the project since it was centrally controlled.
