First Capital Bank (FCB) has supported the Stroke Support Organization (SSO) with K3.5 million towards its awareness campaign drive.

FCB Brand Manager, Twikale Chirwa, says the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility.

“We feel duty bound to complement government’s efforts in uplifting the livelihoods of Malawians. However, our corporate social responsibility focus is education and environment and this is manifestation of us supporting the health sector in Malawi,” he said.

SSO Executive Secretary, Dr. George Chimatiro, says the money will be used to buy the Public Address system “that will help us to effectively work with the general public.

“Stroke continues to be a killer and significant cause of disabilities even among the young people.

“The causes of this include lack of awareness of stroke risk factors and signs, myths surrounding stroke, lack of regular medical checks and underdeveloped health care system.”

He said through the donation, the bank “has shown that it cares for the health of the nation and ultimately for the health of its employees.”
