Police in Thyolo have arrested a 26-year-old Ndirande resident, Mayeso Mission, on suspicion that he has been vandalising transformers for the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in the district.

The district's police publicist, Amos Tione, told Zodiak Online Friday that Mission has been arrested at Makande estate on Thursday after together with three other accomplices, currently at large, vandalised another transformer.

Tione alleged that the four are also behind the string of transformer vandalism at Khonjeni Turn-off, Sports club and Mtambanyama trade centre in the district.

Mission hails from Chikunkhu village, Traditional Authority Mphuka in Thyolo District. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to trace the other three who bolted.

Recently, ESCOM told Zodiak Online that it has lost around 400 transformers in nine months of this year, owing to vandalism.
