Monument and culture director, Dr. Lovemore Mazibuko, has told Zodiak today that now the Ministry of Justice has given an opinion on how they should takeover the mausoleum for the country’s third President.

Dr. Mazibuko was however not at liberty to divulge the content of the opinion, indicating that the family is yet to be contacted.

"We now have an opinion from the Ministry of Justice and we are now engaging the Mutharika family so that we can map the way forward on the issue. I cannot say when exactly we shall have the discussions, but on our side we do not think it should really take time," he said.

Meanwhile, the Mutharika family was not immediately available for comment on the development.

However, earlier after government's intention and official discussion with Minister of Culture Michael Usi, late Bingu's brother, former president Peter Mutharika welcomed the move.

President Lazarus Chakwera ordered that the government should take over care of the mausoleum as one of the country’s departed leaders.

Late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika died in office in April 2012.
