Luchenza Police Arrest 6 for Violence

Police in Luchenza, Thyolo have arrested six people for allegedly blocking the Limbe-Thyolo-Mulanje road last night, a situation which degenerated to violent scenes, in an apparent retaliation to a hit and run incident of a child at Mangunda trading center in the district.
Officer In-Charge for Luchenza police, Emmanuel Chisoma has clarified that, the driver of the vehicle had fled to safety after he saw tempers rising when he attempted to assist the child, currently receiving treatment at Thyolo District Hospital.
Chisoma has identified them as Alex Sitifano, aged 32, Symon Temia 17, Austin Benson, aged 27, Rodrick Mukoma 30, and Charles Naphate aged 28.
While calling on the citizenry to side with drivers in assisting accident survivors, Chisoma says "the driver of the vehicle ran to safety since there were some unbecoming incidents when he stopped to assist the child", he said.
Chisoma says, the driver Dickson Makungwa who was driving a Toyota Fortuner registration number NN2669 has been arrested.
The irate communities allegedly burnt tyres, blocked the road and pelted stones at police.
