Leading sports betting and Lottery Company, Premier Bet has resounded the call for responsible betting and gambling to avoid addiction.

The company’s Commercial Director, Nawar Jarakj said this after presenting cheques to two big winners of 2023 in football betting.

“Premier Bet continues to produce more, and big winners in our games. But, we would like to urge people who bet in our shops, through our agents and online to bet responsibly. This should be something to pass time on and use small amounts after spending on all essentials,” said Jarakj.

The first winner, a 21-year-old James Chaola from Nsanje won K52 million via an online bet with a K500 stake and was presented with the cheque on Wednesday at the company’s headquarters.

Chaola, who has just scooped 16 points in the just released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination said, he uses part of the money to build his mother a house and help his siblings through university.

He said: “I also want to study clinical medicine, and this money will see me through my studies.”

In Lilongwe, 36-year-old second hand clothes vendor, Mphatso Kacherenga from Area 23 won K11 million in online football betting.

“It was just a mere K1000 kwacha that has won me this big prize. Obviously, I will use the winnings to invest in my business,” said Kachengera.

Premier Bet Area Manager for Lilongwe, Daniel Fatch, expressed joy over the fact that more women are winning big.
