Following the launch of the "Tithetse Cholera Campaign" by President Chakwera, Neno district hospital has gone flat out engaging Health Centre Management Committees on new ways of stoping the spread of the disease.

Meeting one of the committees today at Donda village, senior Health Surveillance Assistant Flora Kudzara says people should observe that neighbors have covered toilets, chlorine is being applied to all water drawn from wells and boreholes and immediate use of Oral Rehydration Solutions on cholera suspects.

"People around our communities must observe that a neighbour’s house has a toilet which is covered and also landlords must spare a space for toilet construction," she said.

In his remarks, Mathews Chikunkhuzeni, Environmental Health Officer thinks engaging the Committees, which are close to the communities, will dispel myths about cholera vaccine and increase the adoption of hygienic practices.

Apart from observing hygienic measures, the hospital personnel is advising the people to patronise all the fifteen health centres in the district to get more information on the truths about cholera vaccine and how to prevent it.

Charles William who wanted to know the side effects of the cholera vaccine and for how long it is effective, Chikunkhuzeni responded by saying that the vaccine is taken after every five years.
