The Hospital’s administrator, Sister Cecilia Namuthuwa, who was speaking Tuesday after LifeNet International-Malawi provided supplies to the facility, said despite the fact that they have managed to reduce cases of cholera, the past few days, they have started receiving more patients.

Sister Namuthuwa said from the time they started receiving cholera patients on 19th October 2022, the numbers were high, that at one point they were receiving a minimum of 70 patients a day, but the numbers reduced to the extent that they thought it was ending.

“Cumulative confirmed cases at this facility we have 2591 with total deaths at 53, some days ago for two days we had only two patients admitted, but as of yesterday we had six patients and as I am talking to you, we have thirteen admitted,” explained Sister Namuthuwa.

LifeNet International-Malawi Country Director, Axel Managure, whose organization is working with a number of Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) hospitals in the country, said the donation was a response to the call by the presidential task force on Covid-19 and Cholera.

Managure said after approaching their partners, they were assisted with some suppliers which they have started distributing in Mangochi district and other areas.

“This donation is about K30 million and we are distributing it to about 9 CHAM health facilities here in Mangochi,” said Managure.

Currently, Mangochi district which has registered over 8200 cases with 123 deaths as of 7 March 2023, comes second from Lilongwe districts that has registered more cholera cases in the country.
