Female Bankers Challenged on Leadership Roles

Bankers Association of Malawi Executive Director of Corporate Affairs of the Reserve Bank of Malawi Mercy Kumbatira said it is worrisome to note that women still hold the minority of leadership roles as compared to men.

It is for this reason that Kumbatira urged the female bankers to embrace teamwork and influence so that more women find a seat on the decision-making table.

She was speaking during the two-day women's conference which has started on Thursday.

"we must acknowledge that there are some teething problems that need to be addressed as they are the ones that hinder our progress, once we address them, we shall then easily say that our fight for success and prosperity is almost near," she said.

Concurring with Kumbatira, Bankers Association of Malawi Chief Executive Officer Lyness Nkungula emphasized on the need for women leaders to demonstrate that they can positively impact society.

"As women, we need to be on the front and ensure that we are responding positively to changes and various things that happen in the society," she said.

The fourth Annual Women's Conference is being held under the theme 'Women for Transformational Leadership'.
