Anderson Engineering Malawi Ltd has provided food, nonfood items and a water purifier to Chikondi Elderly and Orphanage Center at Ndirande in Blantyre.

The Center is one of facilities that were hit hard by Cyclone Freddy in Blantyre as it washed away all the necessities and left the home with mud, making it inhabitable by almost twenty children.

The company’s marketing representative, Tamara Munthali, says they felt duty bound to support the orphanage after looking at the way the floods devastated the place.

“We have been assisting the center since 2021. As you can see, this center takes care of the children with disabilities and orphans. Most of these children cannot take care of themselves in terms of food and hygiene among other things.

“Top on the list of items to help with, in order to save lives, is a Lifestraw Community Water Purifier. This item is used to purify otherwise dirty water to usable water, safe for human consumption. We have also organized several other items like blankets, buckets, plates and food,” she said.

Josephine Mussa, director of the orphanage, was short of words of appreciation for the support.

“We stayed for three days without food. The challenges here are enormous. Nothing more that I can says apart from saying that Gob bless Anderson Engineering. These items will help us a lot,” she said.

Mussa says the cyclone washed away everything at the place, saying that the children were lifted to the rooftop for safety and are living at well-wishers’ homes.

Our visit to the orphanage has witnessed the mud-filled rooms and the surroundings with rocks and vehicles that were washed away from some areas.
