A Mulanje based NGO, Othakarhaka Foundation on Monday made a donation of MK5 million worth of relief food and non-food items to Cyclone Freddy affected households in Mulanje.

250 households from Traditional Authorities Nkanda and Mabuka received blankets, buckets, soya pieces, maize flour and sugar from the organization.

Founder and Director of Othakarhaka Foundation Ida Puliwa Mwango told Zodiak Online that just like any other organization of goodwill they thought it necessary to assist the affected families.

“We work in these two communities and we have seen Cyclone Freddy affected people suffering after losing their property during the disaster and they need our help," said Mwango.

Senior Chief Nkanda in her speech said Othakarhaka has always been a friend in need and they cherish their usual support rendered to the community.

“It will take months even years for some of these affected households to recover from this shock and more support mainly food, materials for rebuilding and farm inputs for replanting," said the Senior Chief.

She said the support was sourced from the US based organization called Idemandaccess.
