An unknown woman has reportedly stolen a day-old baby boy at Thyolo District Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday.
A guardian, Mirriam Sandram (the baby's granny) from Loti village, Traditional Authority Nchiramwera believed that the suspect who disguised as one of the guardians in the labour ward throughout the night, stole the baby after her daughter, Rhoda Makasu slept.
"In the wee hours of today (Saturday), I gave the baby to her mother after nursing him together with my sister during night. So it is reported that later, as a samaritan, the suspect asked her mother to help nurse the infant before she disappeared after the mother also fell asleep," she explained at the hospital upon arrival from police.
Thyolo District Health Office spokesperson, Fanuel Makina and district's police station officer, John Jailos confirmed to have received reports of the incident.
