PRISAM President, Amon Mtafya, says the schools have been suffering financially, a development which he says is among issues to be addressed by the Association.

“We are targeting the private schools as you see that we are financial independent and we have been suffering during the covid pandemic. We would like school owners to join. We are launching the SACCO that will help them during financial challenges.

“We are also sensitizing them that as we are approaching examinations, let us adhere to the rules of the Malawi National Examination Board. We do not want our schools to be involved in malpractices such as cheating. We want our students to have confidence that what they have learnt is enough and we are going to shine as we have been doing,” he said.

Chimwemwe Kumwenda who has been appointed as the chairperson for the chapter says they will continue working with government to promote education in the country.

“I would like to ask other schools to join PRISAM. PRISAM has been there since 2002 only that it has been dormant but we believe that we are going to revamp it by working with the ministry of education,” he said.

Director of New Generation Private Schools, Jack Mande, says launching the chapter in the central region is long overdue.

“This is what we expected in the central region and we are glad that it has come to settle in the region. We have heard good things from it that there is SACCO. We suffered during the COVID-19 period but we have been told that we will be accessing loans through the saccos. That is commendable,” he said.
