Health authorities in Neno district have today declared the district a cholera free zone after more than two weeks of no cholera case.
According to District Environmental Health officer Margret Mikwamba, the district has won the fight against the disease due to a multi sectoral approach they adopted which include working with chiefs, pot-pot chlorination and awareness campaigns.

" We worked tirelessly to ensure that we win this battle and we engaged almost every organisation in different ways," she said.

The DEHO also pointed out that the disease should be treated with care as it might resurface if people relax.

She said that " people should continue practicing hygienic measures and surveillance to better manage the disease, and we are continuing to sensitize the people on how to prevent cholera".

The first case was recorded on 29 April, 2022 and to date it infected 783 people with 10 deaths. 56 villages were affected and with 200 learner infected.

Chiwale secondary school was worse hit with 11 learners being infected.
