Expectations are high that the construction of a K4.2 billion three-storey Thyolo District Council office complex would complete by December this year.

Thyolo District Commissioner, Rosemary Nawasha, says now progress is at about 80 percent, adding that the project which commenced in 2019, had missed several deadlines since the contractor faced some delays in shipment of construction materials from China.

Nawasha hopes, with decentralization, the 80 roomed office would enable coordination for all council departments and enhance service delivery to the public.

"The contractor has assured us that all the materials are all in and by December is going to handover the complex to us," she said.

Chairperson for Thyolo district Civil Society Organisations, Willard Mwambo while commending government for the project progress, says this set deadline should not be missed for convenient use.

Meanwhile, Chairperson for Thyolo district Civil Society Organisations, Willard Mwambo has commended government for the project progress.

"We are so happy and expecting to see the actual usage of the office. As we all know that the project has missed a number of deadlines, however we need to wait," Mwambo said.

The office complex is being financed by the central government through the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC).

The Thyolo District Council secretariat is operating in the 1900 structures.
