Expectant women and guardians at Chisoka Health Center in Thyolo are sleeping in the dark and fetching water at a distance due to failure by the district health authorities to buy electricity units.

When Zodiak Online visited the facility on Wednesday, guardians Manesi Chilombo from Likuchira village and Alesi Waliheya from Group Village Headman Mawowa said for two weeks now they are fetching water at a borehole at Chisoka Primary school and using torches during the night.

"Life without water and electricity is something else at Chisoka Health Center, " they said.

In response, Thyolo District Health Office spokesperson, Fanuel Makina said the challenges have come about because they have installed a new electricity-powered water pump currently under study which is draining units.

"We are still studying it on how the units consumption is like. On this one, we are requesting the partners and well-wishers who can be assisting us in procuring electricity units and whatever is required," he requested.

Meanwhile, Zodiak Online has not verified about payment of the cheque.
