Balaka district boasts of beating its 85% target to spray residential structures to kill anopheles mosquitoes, meeting a 90.7 %.

Chief preventive health officer for Balaka Blessings Chitsime says this is an achievement that will likely reduce malaria incidence rate in the district.
"Since Indoor Residual Spray program came to Balaka four years ago, malaria cases have reduced by over half. We believe this year's 90.7% spray coverage will take it down further," Chitsime told Zodiak Online on Thursday
He said despite some stunts of refusals, this is an achievement that ensures a great milestone in the fight against malaria.
According to Chitsime, the decrease is already showing positive impact in the communities, as the healthy populations that include under five children and pregnant women, are relieved from burden and cost in nursing malaria patients.
World Vision district coordinator for Balaka Loyce Wabu, attributed the success to coordinated efforts by all relevant stakeholders.
"Balaka district Council fully took ownership of the program, and it was easy for us as an organization to facilitate," said Webu.
Global Fund supported IRS project, in an effort to end epidemics including malaria.
