Govt Approves 3 Proposed Chieftaincy Heirs in Thyolo
The government has approved the submitted names as the next traditional authorities: Kapichi, Chimaliro, and Changata of Thyolo.
The Thyolo district commissioner, Hudson Kuphanga, confirmed the development on Monday, adding that they have advised the families to start preparations for the installation soon.
"Yes, chiefs Kapichi, Changata and Chimaliro have been approved for installation to be announced soon. As of now, we have informed the royal families to start preparing for the big day," Kuphanga said.
The Chimaliro chieftaincy clan chose Robert Kaphiyo, brother to the departed chief Taurai Kaphiyo, as the T/A Chimaliro, while Melvin Chimwanga was chosen to occupy the T/A Kapichi throne.
The Changata clan, on the other hand, settled for Yohane Ntambe Bamusi to replace the departed chief.
Late last year, a sombre mood engulfed Thyolo district following the death of two senior chiefs Chimaliro and Kapichi including TA Changata in a row.
In the year, the country also lost some other senior chiefs in Nsanje, Chiradzulu, Lilongwe among others.
