PIC Trains BTTC Students in ICT and Manufacturing

The Project Innovation Centre (PIC) has launched a two-day training program in product manufacturing and ICT for student teachers and lecturers at Blantyre Teachers Training College (BTTC).

PIC Chief Executive Officer, Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira, says they want the student teachers to hone skills in high quality product manufacturing and website development.

“Firstly, we want these students, once they graduate, to create websites for their schools to showcase their success stories. As the world goes digital, understanding website development will enable them to offer e-lessons to students,” he said.

Ngwira also encouraged the establishment of manufacturing clubs among student teachers with a conviction, the initiative will contribute to Malawi’s development agenda, Malawi 2063, and facilitate support from the government and its partners for schools.

“This is one way we can contribute to Malawi’s attainment of the development agenda, Malawi 2063 and this will even make it easy for the government and its partners to support these schools.”

Idah Kachikuwa, a lecturer at BTTC, described the training as very important.

She said: “currently we are training Initial Teacher Primary Education (IPTE 18) intake, and as you know our curriculum does not involve such practical skills as manufacturing and ICT development. These skills will not only be used in class or teaching learners in our daily lives.”

Kachikuwa said, these practical skills to develop our homes and be innovative enough to venture in business from the products such as sugar, soap and others to be manufactured locally.

PIC says it will take the training to other teacher training schools across the country at no cost.
