Minister of Transport and Public Works Jacob Hara says they are working on dealing with growing corruption issues at the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTS) in Blantyre.

Hara told Zodiak Online Wednesday that they intend to undertake a system update that will completely deal away with congestion and queues at the road traffic centers.

In a written response, Hara said this was the case since the procurement process of a consultant to work on the issue took a little longer.

"We are glad to report that we have now resolved the network outages which were due to a technical fault on our server. The procurement process took us a little longer to get a consultant to work on the issue," he said.

Minister Hara disclosed that he met with the Vice President Dr. Michael Usi on Tuesday to report progress on what the Department has done so far to rectify gaps identified during a visit last month, which included poor service delivery and corruption at the centre.

He since called on the public to report any form of corruption through the directorate's toll free line.

Meanwhile, director of communications for the office of Vice President, Pilirani Phiri while confirming the meeting said, Dr. Usi noted that there was a diagnosis of the problem and that proactive steps were taken by the relevant ministry to rectify the issues.

The VP's visit at the institution in August this year came amid mounting public concerns of delayed service delivery especially for one to access a driving license.
