Phalombe district commissioner , Rodrick Mateauma  has told Zodiak Wednesday that it is pathetic to note that some people are doing this forgetting about the 1991 flash floods that swept over 500 people.

According to Mateauma, the council has asked those building houses along the river to stop doing so to avoid floods.

"We have already started receiving heavy rains in Phalombe raising  fears of floods if it continues raining like this," said Mateauma.

He has since asked people in the district to be responsible,  saying once floods sweep their houses they will accuse the council of falling to assist them.

One of the business persons who is constructing along the river, Charles Thom has told Zodiak Online that he cannot stop constructing the house since he is using strong building materials.

Thom  has denied reports that officials from the council approached to stop building the house.

The 1991, flash floods commonly known as Napolo swept over 500 people in Phalombe district.
