Meet Reyneck Matemba, the man in charge of the graft busting body in Malawi. The Anti Corruption Bureau Director had actually wanted to be a soldier but ended up pursuing law. The father of three girls has devoted his life working as a public servant working in different capacities in the legal field.

From a teacher at the Police Secondary School to heading the entire Malawi Police Service, the story of Lot Dzonzi is truly inspirational. Through his life, he has also kept an active role in Christian Evangelism, helping to set up Life Ministries in Malawi and is a regular preacher and teacher at various churches and religious gatherings. He is also an author with more than 10 books on his repertoire.

After finishing his tour of duty as the Second Permanent Representative of Malawi to the United Nations, he wants to use his motivational skills to start training young people on how they can make their lives better and more productive.

Meet the vivacious Interim Country Director for Plan International Malawi. She has defied all odds growing up in a male dominated society that does not place much trust in girls. At an early age her father placed a lot of trust in her and challenged her to always be he best she can be, she made her heir to his estate after he passed, bypassing some of her male siblings.

She says she is the product of many people who have encouraged her to work hard and be professional. She has risen through the ranks to the top and now head the Malawi country office.

As Plan Malawi commemorates the 2019 International Day of the Girl, Phoebe says she is excited to lead a project aimed at stepping up efforts in empowering girls and women through a campaign dubbed #GirlsGetEqual #ReWriteHerStory

CRUISE 5 WITH ANGIE MWAFULIRWA CHAIRPERSON SHARPEN HER

Angie Mwafulirwa is the chaiperson for Sharpen Her - The African Womens Network (SHAWN). SHAWN was officially launched on 9th March, 2019. Angie is passionate about women, refugees and asylum seekers and the challenges they face. She works as a community development worker and her role gives her the opportunity to give back to these groups of people.

She says her passion mainly derives from the fact that she has had experience of being a migrant having to jump through so many hurdles in the journey to settlement in the UK. Navigating life in a tough and alien system shaped Angie into an activist, hence the desire to support other women.

Professor Patrick Loch Otienno Lumumba is a flamboyant man with powerful speeches against graft and corruption. He is sought for in all of Africa and beyond. In this chat he tells me about his brief ban to visit Zambia, his stint as Director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission and his charity organisation.

We also discuss cross cutting issues like the practicality of fighting against the powerful and the politically connected in Africa, neo-colonialism, African leaders and senior government officials who seek social and medical services abroad because they are not available in their countries and setting of upper age limits for presidents. He also comments on the political impasse in Malawi where the opposition political parties are accusing the ruling party and the electoral commission of rigging the May 2019 Elections.
