Kanyenda Chieftaincy Wrangle Rages in Nkhotakota

Since 2016, there has been a chieftaincy wrangle between Joseph Issac Chirwa representing the Kanyenda Mkokowogona Wambura Mphaka family and the acting T/, A Edward Chirwa on the rightful heir to the Kanyenda throne.

The Family of Kanyenda Mkokowogona Kambura Mphaka in Nkhotakota has not been amused that Edward Chirwa act in the capacity of TA Kanyenda, when the high court restrained him for exercising that role in October last year.

The High Court then, advised the two sides to appoint a T/A using the Chewa customs and the Chiefs Act.

However, brother to Joseph Issac Chirwa, MacHester Kampanje Banda, claims, Edward Chirwa, is not directly linked to late T/A Kanyenda's Chieftaincy.

“Edward failed to bring evidence in court and he has no history, therefore, is not linked to Kanyenda Chieftaincy,” he said.

But it seems this is not well with Edward Chirwa who maintains he is the rightful successor and direct nephew to the late Chewac chief in Nkhotakota district.

“Kanyenda chieftaincy follows Chewa customs and I am a direct nephew to TA Kanyenda and a rightful successor,” he said.

TA Kanyenda of Nkhotakota died in October 2016.
