Police in Kasungu have arrested four people for wrecking the shop of a Burundian national and stealing property worth millions of Kwacha at Kadifula Trade Centre.

Kasungu police spokesperson, Inspector Harry Namwanza, says the four were among a group of young men protesting against Burundians plying trade in the district.

Police say having chased the victim,  the villagers looted  his shop before stealing properties worthy K2,984,900.00 and K800,000.000 cash.

“Among the items stolen include bags of fertilizer, bags of flour, bags of sugar and other merchandise which he was selling in his shop,” said Namwaza.

He said on the day of the incident the protestors “carried branches of trees and stones, invaded the shop of the Burundian national in question.

“The suspects are identified as  Saulosi Zimba, aged 27, of Kadifula village, Filodi Josamu, 33, of Kadifula village, Enock Kalima, aged 26, of Lipilani village and a 13 year old boy all from traditional authority Chiowamatambe,” said Namwaza.

The four have been charged with robbery contrary to section 301(2) of the penal code and police enquiries are still underway to arrest the remaining suspects.

They will appear before court today to answer the charge leveled against them.
