“The two picked a fight …over maize sales. When they wife confronted the wife, the husband beat her up. He left her unconscious,” Chigalu said.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Nsipe Health Centre where she was rushed to by well-wishers.

Chigalu said “When news broke the woman had died, angry villagers descended on the husband and assaulted him to death”.

A postmortem at the district hospital established that the wife died due to internal breeding secondary to violent assault on the abdomen.

The husband died of head injuries.
