COVID19: Maula Prison Releases Inmates

Maula Prison in Lilongwe has released 581 inmates in a European Union-funded Chilungamo Project, aimed at decongesting the Prison amid the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While saying she expects life to be tough outside prison, one of the inmates Mwai Majid has expressed joy that she has at least escaped more danger in the congested prison.

Maula Prison station officer, Senior Superintendent Ibrahim Sinde says the move has eased the institution’s common space and food challenges, but specifically so on the spread of the pandemic.
