Blood Sucking Rumors-Court in Nkhata Bay denies 15 People Bail

A magistrate’s court in Nkhata Bay has denied bail 15 people suspected to have caused a rampage at a rest house in Chintheche on suspicion it was harboring blood suckers.

The 15, according to Nkhata Bay police publicist Kondwani James, have been charged with different counts ranging from malicious damage to house breaking.

On Tuesday, the police in Nkhotakota arrested nine people who allegedly attacked and robbed ESCOM employees under the pretext they were blood suckers.

Meanwhile, the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi has expressed worry over continued attacks on its employees on duty on suspicion they are blood suckers.

This follows attacks on ESCOM staff at Kasitu, Dwangwa in Nkhotakota at the weekend where nine workers on duty were injured by community members.

In a statement released Tuesday the utility body has called on traditional leaders and the police to act swiftly in addressing the myth if such barbaric attacks are to end.
