Mia said presidential candidate Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his running mate Dr. Saulos Chilima represent the aspirations of Malawians in the coming election and that as such, he would not want to let down Malawians by prioritizing his ambitions.

Mia said this Tuesday at Phandadzinja Primary School in Chikwawa where he distributed maize flour to over a thousand households in the area of Group Village Headman Gilemu under T/A Mgabu in Chikwawa South Constituency.

“Principles matter a lot in politics. I have stuck to my principles. My loyalty is to MCP and Dr. Chakwera. Nobody can move me out.

“I went there because I know that what they stand for is what our people want. I stand for the people in the shire valley and the entire country. I cannot afford to let them down,” said Mia to reporters after the relief distribution exercise.

His remarks come barely days after DPP-UDF alliance running mate Atupele Muluzi suggested on the campaign trail that Mia had better return to his former parties either DPP or UDF now that his wish to be vice president has been thwarted by an alliance.

But Mia says other than campaign for the MCP, he would also be working on strengthening the election monitoring mechanism to ensure every vote is protected.

Chikwawa South Constituency parliamentarian, Eliyas Abdul Karim, who is also MCP Deputy Director of Research urged people in the Shire Valley to demonstrate their support for Mia by massively supporting for MCP-UTM candidate Chakwera.

Group Village Headman Gilemu held Mia's gesture for distributing food items to the people in the area saying a number of house-holds in the shire valley face hunger as the region is prone to effects of climate change that impacts greatly on harvests.

There are over 258, 960 and 145, 520 registered voters in Chikwawa and Nsanje districts respectively according to Malawi Electoral Commission statistics released prior to last year's tripartite elections.
