Lawyers Push for Judiciary's Independence

A group of lawyers under the banner Lawyers of Malawi, will this Wednesday take to the streets in a demonstration against alleged judicial invasion by the Executive arm of Government.

In a notice sent to city councils of Blantyre, Zomba, Mzuzu and Lilongwe, the grouping says attempts by President Mutharika to remove Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda and another judge are illegal.

One of the organizers Khwima Mchizi told Zodiak Online that the demonstrations are aimed at forcing the Executive arm of Government to respect the Judiciary.

He said since the courts nullified the 2019 presidential election, the Executive has continuously attacked the Judiciary.
