MEC chairman Dr Chifundo Kachale made the announcement last night at the main tally centre in Blantyre.

According to Dr Kachale, the president elect amassed 58.75% of the vote.

There have been celebrations in parts of the country following the announcement of the official winner of the presidential poll.

There were also cheers and celebrations as Dr Lazarous Chakwera travelled from Blantyre to Lilongwe.

People shouted good luck messages, whistled and cheered at his convoy.
