Experts Question Police Professionalism

Legal experts and political commentators have attributed the police’s failure to operate independently of governing political parties to the appointment process of the Inspector General of Police.

This follows an observation that the law enforcers only act on suspects connected to the ruling party when the party is out of power.

Currently, the police have arrested some officials and sympathizers of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on suspicion that they committed various crimes.

Meanwhile; Police in Chikwawa have transferred Deputy Chief Executive Officer at National Food Reserve Agency Gerald Viola to Blantyre police for further questioning.

Viola was arrested in Chikwawa on alleged offenses committed in 2019.

At the time of the arrests, Police were not coming out clear on the charges against Viola, a DPP sympathizer, but we hear he allegedly pawned a government vehicle to obtain a loan at Ngabu in Chikwawa.
