Court Reserves Bail Ruling For APM Aide Chisale to Friday

Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court has reserved its bail ruling for former President Peter Mutharika’s private bodyguard Norman Chisale to Friday.

Chisale who was arrested on Tuesday was brought to court this afternoon where he was formally charged with fraud and money laundering.

He is being accused of facilitating the importation of 1.2 million 50-kg bags of cement duty-free into the country worth 5 billion kwacha in the name of the former president.

During his court appearance, a crowd of DPP and UDF supporters stormed the court premises, demanding his release.

They also attacked Zodiak cameraman David Chapita who was covering the event. He was treated as an outpatient.

While condemning the attack, Misa Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga called on the new Chakwera administration to uphold media freedom.
