The two institutions discussed this in a closed-door meeting in Lilongwe on Thursday. 

Commissioner for the Central West Region of Police Merlyne Yolamu hopes this will likely improve the state of affairs between the neighboring countries. 

Yolamu says, “we have resolved to work together in ending the crimes affecting the two countries that share a boundary and other amenities”. 

“The problems are similar, cross-border crimes such as traveling without proper documents for example. Most of these are passing through the two countries to South Africa. We plan to work together in border patrols and other sweeping exercises to clean our countries,” explained Yolamu. 

On her part Commissioner of Police for Tete Province in Mozambique Ania Mussa highlighted the need for sensitization in the country’s on the dangers of human trafficking as one way of a means of getting a solution.

She notes that this is another challenge affecting the two countries that they cannot overlook. 

“We need to engage our people with sensitization messages. They have to understand that human trafficking is not only a crime in their countries but also in the destination country’s too.”
