Salima District Hospital 31 Years No Rehabilitation

Salima District Hospital constructed 31 years ago is now in a dilapidated state and the district council which should attend to this is resource-constrained.

The district hospital carters for a population of 478,346.

“There is need for urgent maintenance. We would appreciate it very much where well-wishers come in to help. Otherwise the situation is bad,” said Mawindo.

Hospital matron, Yanjanani Mawondo, said this recently when a paint company Rainbow Paints donated paint valued at a million and 500 thousand Kwacha.

Mawondo has appealed for more support from well-wishers to help ensure that the facility is properly maintained to continue offering health service to the people.

Rainbow Paint’s Technical Manager, Geoffrey Zuliyani, says the donation was part of the company’s 30th-anniversary celebration. Almost the same age as the hospital.

“We hope that the small gift will help out with restoring the look of the hospital. This was part of our commemoration of the 30th anniversary,” he said.

Other stakeholders have helped in the rehabilitation and expansion of the maternity wing at the hospital which was small and also in a dilapidated state.
