COVID19: New Infections Rise, Taskforce Fears of Second Wave

Chairperson of the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19, Dr. John Phuka, has expressed concern that Malawi seems to be heading towards a second wave of the pandemic as evidenced by an increase in infections and recently recorded deaths.

Speaking to us, Dr. Phuka says his concern comes in the wake of the wet and humid rainy season, the rise in Covid-19 cases in surrounding countries, and the fact that the majority of Malawians have relaxed on preventive measures.

The concern comes at a time we are going into a festive season when gatherings and human trafficking generally increase in public spaces.
