Death Toll in Salima-Lilongwe Road Accident Rises to 7

The death toll on the Salima Lilongwe road accident that occurred yesterday has risen to seven from five.

Central Region Police Publicist Hurry Namwaza says the two died at Salima district hospital where they were rushed for treatment together with 10 others that sustained injuries from the accident.

He added that the driver of the minibus which overturned at Katengeza trading centre has been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for further treatment.

Elsewhere, one person is reportedly dead after a vehicle which was allegedly trafficking illegal immigrants from Karonga to Dowa was involved in an accident in Kasungu yesterday morning.

The number of casualties in the accident remains unclear as survivors are said to have fled the scene of the accident.

Central East Police region spokesperson Harry Namwaza says the dead body from the accident was dumped in Dowa and police have since launched an investigation.
