Police Record 11 Percent Crime Reduction in Central Eastern Region

Police say crime in the Central Eastern Police Region reduced by 11 percent in the third quarter of the year.

Commissioner Arlene Baluwa told Zodiak on Wednesday from January to September last year, they registered about 4400 criminal cases but 4000 in the same period this year.

Deputy chairman of regional community police there Hassan Nyakamera said his committee is committed to working with law enforcers to further reduce crime

Meanwhile, the Malawi Police Service says it is finalizing investigations into the fatal shooting of a Polytechnic student, Blessings Nyondo, in Blantyre early this year.

National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera was responding to concerns by the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which wrote the Inspector General of Police to expedite the investigations.

MHRC spokesperson, Kate Kujaliwa, told Zodiak the IG has written the commission to assure them of a speedy process.
